About Us

We are a four-part (SATB) choral ensemble which presents everything from Brahms to Broadway, from classical to contemporary. No auditions required, and we are accepting new members. All voices are welcome, especially tenors and basses. Rehearsals are held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays during the Fall (September to December) and Spring (January to May) semesters in East Greenbush.   Contact "ccvsings@hotmail.com" to confirm the rehearsal location.

Membership dues are $25 per semester.


2019-20 Season:  

Capital Community Voices, Inc., directed by Julie Panke, will present two choral concerts in the 2019-20 season. The concerts will be held in December and May, and tickets will be $10 general admission, and $8 students and seniors.

Call for Singers! If you've ever sung with CCV, or never sung with CCV, join us in September for the Fall 2019 semester and/or in January for the Spring 2020 semester.  Spring rehearsals will begin Tuesday, January 14, 2020, 7 pm, at Hawthorne Ridge, 32 Community Way, East Greenbush.

About Our Director

Julie Panke has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, where she trained at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, and a Master of Arts Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is presently director of music at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady and previously served churches in Albany, Burnt Hills, and Glenville. Ms. Panke also directs the Thursday Musical Club, a forty-voice women's chorus based in Schenectady. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and a founding officer and former executive director of the Electronic Music Foundation headquartered in Albany.

Abour Our Accompanist

Joanna Towse earned her B.S. in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose, went on to study at Eastman School of Music, then completed her Master's degree from Crane at SUNY Potsdam.  Upon graduation, Joanna taught classroom music in the public school system.  For 30 years, she was employed by Siena College in the Creative Arts Department where she taught lecture courses in music as well as vocal performance classes.  She is music director at St. Mary's Church in Nassau, N.Y.  Joanna serves on the advisory board for Siena College Opera Club.

CCV FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I'm interested in joining, but I'm nervous about auditioning for a chorus. What can I do?

A. We don't hold auditions, so there's no pressure! Just show up and sing! If you're not sure which part you sing, the director can meet with you privately to help you choose.


Q. How do I join?

A. If possible, please send an e-mail to the CCV webmaster at mailto:ccvsings@hotmail.com to let us know you're coming, as well as to confirm the exact location of the rehearsal for the particular night you would like to attend.


Q. How much does it cost to become a member?

A. There is a $25 semester fee.


Q.  Do I have to purchase the music?

A. No, the chorus purchases the music, which is loaned to the members during the semester.


Q. Do I have to read music, or have a strong music background to join?

A. Our members range from those who can't read music to those who are very musically-inclined. All are welcome.


Q. What do I do if I can't make a rehearsal?

A. Please call your section leader or the director to let us know.


Q. What should I wear for performances?

A. The Dress Code is as follows:

Men: Black slacks, long-sleeved (Winter concert) or short-sleeved (Spring concert) white dress shirt, black (or other color) necktie (provided), black dress shoes.

Women: Black skirt (knee length or longer) or black dress pants, long-sleeved (Winter concert) or short-sleeved (Spring concert) white blouse, black hose, black dress shoes.

For all: NO cologne or perfume. Minimal jewelry.
